History

Phoenix Basketball Club is a result of an amalgamation of the Jades Basketball Club and the Delacombe Dragons Basketball Club. This occurred in December 2002 and was ratified in time for the first 2003 domestic season. An interim committee was set up to merge all components of the two clubs, both playing and administration.

The club at this point played as Jades – Dragons and did so for that initial 2003 season. The Club’s teams either wore the green and white of Jades or the Black and Gold of Delacombe Dragons as their playing uniforms.

After a long period of discussion, and involvement of the members, the amalgamated club adopted the name of the Phoenix Basketball Club. The club also adopted its current uniform of Sky Blue and White. This was all completed in time to commence the second season of 2003 as Phoenix and in our new club colours. Our first games were played in July 2003.

Location

Phoenix Basketball Club is located at the Arch Stadium, Sturt Street, Alfredton, right next to the Ballarat High School. (just down from the “Arch of Victory” landmark, city side)

The stadium provides 3 full sized courts which we use as a training base. We also have access to meeting rooms and also house our uniform and merchandise shop at this location.

Tournaments

Phoenix Basketball Club enters its junior teams in two tournaments every year.
The Club contests the McDonalds Junior Basketball tournament held over the June Long Weekend in Ballarat. Teams are entered in each age group for both boys and girls, where numbers permit.

The Club also contests the Basketball Victoria Country Club Championships. Our participation in this event has grown each year to the point where for 2007, 8 teams have been entered covering all 4 age groups for both boys and girls.
